St. Alban’s partnered with the Walton County Sheriff Department to launch a new ministry. Sheriff Joe Chapman agreed to allow jail inmates to volunteer to grow vegetables on a 100 x 150 plot of land at the jail. Everything grown by the inmates will be given away to those who are in need here in Monroe/Walton County. St. Alban’s part in this ministry is: 1) Some of our experienced gardeners will provide advice on what to plant, when to plant & gardening instructions (not labor!); 2) a team of St. Alban’s parishioners will pick up the veggies weekly and distribute to people who are in need; 3) inmates do all of the gardening and labor.
St. Alban’s parishioner, DeDe Harris, obtained a grant to pay for tools and seed for the garden. DeDe is also contacting service organizations such as the Senior Center, DFACS, FISH, etc., to come up with a list of people in need that would like to receive fresh veggies. DeDe has also obtained a similar grant for a community garden on Davis Street, and those veggies will go to that community.

Saint Alban's is proud to be an integral part of the community of Monroe and Walton County, a dynamic and growing community only a few minutes from metropolitan Atlanta. We strive to be a 'good neighbor,' a thing which Christ calls us to do and
thus is central to living out the Gospel. Many of our members are involved in any number of outreach ministries, non-profit initiatives, the arts, and community affairs.
In addition, we generally make available our facilities to non-profits and community groups at no charge who have need of programming and/or meeting space. We are also 'home base' for the Healthy Grandparents Program. Saint Alban's is an official polling site.
We have been active supporters of and/or provided programming space for the Girl Scouts, the Chamber of Commerce, Relay For Life (an annual fund raiser for the American Cancer Society), FISH (a local and ecumenically supported Thrift Store and Emergency Aid program), and the Healing Angels Free Clinic (indigent care for long term cardiac and diabetes monitoring on a weekly basis).
Many members participate in Fish for Kids (a summer lunch program for those on school lunch programs during the school year) by making, packing and delivering lunches.

The Angel Tree is a once a year project for the Children of Healthy Grandparents. The children make a wish list for Christmas. Parishioners pick a card from the tree and try to grant as many requests for the children as possible. |
